RunKeeper

This is an awesome little app that allows you to track your activities. Whether you are running, biking, walking or hiking, it has a plethora of activities to choose from and is very user friendly. You can track your distance, speed and map your route: there are also a handful of pre-programed workouts that will help you train for anything from your first 5K to a marathon.

Take a couple of minutes to add in your age, gender and weight. This will allow the program to track roughly how many calories you are burning as you are doing your chosen activity.

On your start menu, pick your activity from the drop down menu "Activity Type". If you are wanting to do a specific workout plan, that can be chosen in the next drop down window "Workout"..... oh ya, and make sure your GPS is turned on, or it can't track you (speaking from experience of course ;o).

Then just select "Start Activity". When you are done, stop the tracking. It will give you a window with your time, average pace, total distance and how many calories you burned. If you flip over to the next window it will show you a map with your route on it, and another window will break down each mile for you with the route and pace on each one.

You can save this information and use it for later fact gathering - distance and speed improvements, setting PR's, and helping to keep you on track for that goal you might be trying to achieve.

I especially love this app when I am running in an area I am not familiar with, so I know how far I have gone and can make sure I get all the miles in I need to. It's also great when hiking - if you aren't so far out that  your GPS can't track you (which actually happens a lot to me, but I would WAY rather be that far out than know how far I am going) - so you know how long your hike was.

Give it a try! It's a very useful tool in reaching your goals.
